Bill Gates Disses Google's GTalk

via Valleywag:

Quote from Bill Gates about Google:

"The Google tools that have tried to do productivity type things, they really don't have the richness, the responsiveness. Most of these Google products, to be frank, the day they announce them is their best day. I remember there was one called G Talk. I can barely remember the name but it was, you know, going to change the world."

Pretty funny comment since I use GTalk all day long and am slowly seeing my contacts fill up with other GTalk users.  I have never used MSN Messenger and never plan to.

I've mostly stopped using Messenger, I hate the advertising that it tries to enforce on you (there must be a way to switch it off), also a couple of my 'friends' have had their account hacked which has meant that I get messages (e.g. photos) that have viruses.

My Gtalk account has done nothing but grow naturally over the past year. It magically adds people that I've exchanged emails with, that I would not normally add as a friend, but have found it useful as I do end up chatting to them.

Google don't get everything right, but seem to be alot better than Microsoft!

Google Talk is very relevant today - but so are many other services. I use Adium, which is for macs and allows you to filter yahoo, msn, aim, google, jabber, .mac, live journal, etc. contacts all through one source. I found that was my best bet as so many people use so many different types of messaging programs. Everyone has their preference. Only problem is it requires me to have an account everywhere!
